Reciclar is an intervention in public space, more specifically is an action made at the recyclable waste collection points of a well-known supermarket in São Paulo, Pão de Açúcar.
Users are asked to introduce their daily waste and also their ‘inner garbage’ into special containers placed by the artist. She replacing the containters’ words: paper, plastic, glass, metal and organic with words such as: ENVY, WRATH, GREED, GLUTTONY, LAZINESS, LUST, SELFISHNESS and JEALOUSY for a total of eight deadly sins. The aesthetic and collective operation leads the community of the city to reflect on the meaning of the word “garbage”, which indicates any material without value or use that is disgusting because it is dirty: due to the large production of “waste” in the world, Recycle asks whether it is enough to recycle materials and objects to become the world a more sustainable and a better place to live.
